ManyCam Fruit Guessing Game For Teaching English Online

ManyCam Fruit Guessing Game

The virtual webcam software ManyCam has made teaching online for DaDaABC an even more enjoyable experience. One example of this is the ManyCam Fruit Guessing Game.

But first, if you don’t know…

Read more about what ManyCam is by clicking this link.

When teaching English to Chinese students online, it is so important to have warm-up activities or tricks for keeping the student engaged. If your lesson plan only consists of the courseware, then some students may start to lose interest and not absorb your teachings.

You may find yourself constantly scrambling for puppets or a ukulele if you notice your DaDaABC student start to yawn – but there is a much more dynamic way to bring their attention to life!

DigiNo have come up with an incredibly simple game using Many Cam to spice up your online ESL classroom using the virtual camera effects installed already within the software:

ManyCam Fruit Guessing Game [For Teaching English Online with DaDaABC]

So as you see, the ManyCam Fruit Guessing Game involves the child guessing the fruit effects on the screen to improve their vocabulary. Add a bit of humour in there and there you have a great all-round educational experience.

Such a simple game and it never fails to get the students laughing and engaged.

Then they are ready to get right back to work with a fresh perspective and a smile.

ManyCam Fruit Guessing Game

Using the virtual camera and effects in this way has really saved me so much time and money on finding props to improve my online classroom. Although, I still use my trusty puppets, ukulele and flashcards, it’s always good to have ManyCam to switch things up.

Nothing wrong with having too many options!

Pros and Cons of Being an Online ESL Teacher for DaDaABC

Pros and Cons of DaDaABC | DigiNo copy

What are the Pros and Cons of teaching English online with DaDaABC?

In every job there are positives and negatives…and the same applies to teaching ESL online.

So in this article we will explore 3 pros and 3 cons of working for DaDaABC.

Or alternatively, you can watch the video below:

If you would like an introduction to online teaching with DaDaABC then go to this article:

Earn Money as an Online ESL Teacher with DaDaABC

Now let’s get to the Pros and Cons…

PRO #1 –  The Platform

You teach students on a video conference platform called DaDaClass that is similar to Skype or Zoom, however it has a guided lesson plan on the screen.

This on-screen lesson plan can consist of written activities, stories or questions.

It allows the teacher to focus their energies on keeping the student engaged, rather than coming up with lesson plans constantly.

Definitely a PRO!

If you want to learn more about keeping the student engaged and standing out as an online teacher, then click below:

Teaching for DadaABC: How the Hiring Process Works and Standing Out

CON #1 – Trial Classes

Trial classes are 14 minutes long and are new students testing out the DaDaABC service.

A lot of the time these students can be low English ability, so you may find yourself using a lot of energy to keep them engaged with body language and props, such as puppets.

Puppets for DaDaABC online teaching

Click the above image to find these puppets on Amazon.

If you have several trial classes all in row, you may end up constantly doing the alphabet on the courseware which can be very tiresome.

Click this link for tips on how to keep online students engaged during class.

PRO #2 – Regular Students

Along with trial classes, you also have your regular students. These are students that you see on a weekly basis which allows you to strike up a bond.

Here is a video talking all about regular students and DaDaABC:

This is a great part of the job as you get to see the weekly development and progression of the student.

You also develop a sense of humour with the student and it is always great to have fun whilst learning!

Pros and Cons of DaDaABC

Click here to see 4 of the best warm-up activities to keep your student engaged throughout your online English class.

CON #2 – Class Reports

After each online class with DaDaABC, you have to fill out a class report for the parents of the student

This is simply summing up what you studied together, what they did well, what they could improve upon and homework to be done.

The drawback of this is if you see your student quite regularly they aren’t progressing enough to warrant writing a report about every one of their classes.

So you may end up writing the same thing each time of how they mispronounced a word, which can get very repetitive.

PRO #3 – The Community

There is a fantastic Facebook group for DaDaABC online teachers, as well as one for hopeful applicants.

Pros and Cons of DaDaABC | Facebook Group

It is a great community for people to ask questions and share problems or funny moments.

Working from home does create a certain degree of isolation, so the DaDaABC community provides a great source of workplace camaraderie.

Pros and Cons of DaDaABC | Community

CON #3 – Half-Pay Rule For Stand-by Time

When a student cancels the class beforehand or doesn’t turn up, or if you have an empty slot in your contracted hours, you will receive half of your hourly rate for that time period.

Therefore you are only paid full-pay for the time that you are teaching in your contracted hours.

This does seem relatively fair, however, to lose money for something that is out of your control is always going to be a con rather than a pro.

One More Thing…

Let’s not end this article on a sour note! Being an online English teacher for DaDaABC is a fantastic job.

It is also an opportunity to be part of the current online innovation in education.

So if you want to be part of the future of education then click the link below to apply to be an online ESL teacher with DaDaABC:

What is the Minimum Internet Speed for DaDaABC?

What is the Minimum Internet Speed for DaDaABC? | DigiNo

I think we can all agree that the best kind of internet is fast internet.

Am I right?

So let’s say you have applied to become an online ESL teacher with DaDaABC after reading our article here:

Earn Money as an Online ESL Teacher with DaDaABC

Now the next step, if your application is successful, is for DaDaABC to test your internet speed.

You need good speed internet for the online teaching platform to work.

Internet Connection

You will also need a laptop to perform the job of course…here is the one that I personally use to teach with DaDaABC on Amazon:

(DigiNo earns commission from products purchased through the site’s links on Amazon if you would like to support the site).

So What is the Minimum Requirement Internet Speed for DaDaABC?

Well…

Download Speed = 10 mbps

Upload Speed = 2 mbps

If your internet speed doesn’t meet this criteria when testing it using speedtest.net

…then your application will not progress to the later stages.

So What is the Best Internet Provider for Teaching with DaDaABC?

The best internet provider to give you the best chance of getting the job with DaDaABC ultimately depends on your area.

Here is a case study from within the United Kingdom:

A DigiNo living in England uses Virgin Media Fibre Optic Broadband and gets the following speeds:

Download Speed = 55 Mbps

Upload Speed = 5 Mbps

This is perfect for this particular DigiNo as they work for DaDaABC as an online English teacher and require a really good connection for the teaching platform to work.

Click the image below to check out Virgin Media Broadband for yourself!

Virgin Media Fibre Optic Broadband | DigiNo

However, the DigiNo recently travelled to Scotland.

They were unable to find a connection good enough at their temporary home there to teach online.

Research Your Area’s Internet Speed Before Applying to DaDaABC

After doing some research, it seemed that the city in Scotland did indeed have fibre optic laid down…however it had not been connected.

This particular digital nomad had discovered a world without the fibre optic that they had become so accustomed to.

The best they could get was with Sky Broadband, which speed was as follows:

Download Speed = 5 Mbps

Upload Speed = 1.3 Mbps

Which is pretty shocking compared to Virgin.

Virgin Broadband vs Sky and BT | DigiNo

And remember, the minimum required for online English teaching on DaDaABC’s platform is:

Download Speed = 10 Mbps

Upload Speed = 2 Mbps

So the average speed in Scotland compared to England was drastically different, despite both being in the United Kingdom.

So as you see, it really does depend on your area.

So if you think your internet meets the minimum requirements for DaDaABC, then click the image below and begin your application!

5 Ways That Technology Improves ESL Teaching

5 Ways That Technology Improves ESL Teaching | DigiNo

ESL teaching is one of those jobs that will always exist, otherwise how would parents cope with having the kids on their hands all day?

But on a serious note, I think teaching is also beginning to adapt to the digital world.

There are now opportunities to be an online English language teacher, which is a monumental step in the world of education.

Foreign language students now have access to live video tutoring with a native English speaker right from the comfort of their own home – which is revolutionary for their learning potential!

You can read more about to become an online ESL teacher by clicking the image below:

Teach ESL Online From Anywhere in the World | DigiNo

This job has got me thinking about all the different ways technology will and has probably already evolved teaching – ensuring that it is a job that will last the test of time.

Here are a list of 5:

1. Using Apps to improve ESL Teaching

There are so many ways that apps can revolutionise teaching. Imagine an app that makes marking a thing of the past?

Or how about simply using an app for animal sounds when teaching  online ESL classes to keep the student engaged at the press of a button.

Using Apps for ESL Teaching | DigiNo

2. Can Social Media Improve ESL Teaching?

There are several emerging social media platforms dedicated for schools as a way to track rewards systems, such as Vivo Inspire. Swapping gold star stickers for ‘likes’.

This may make the playground more of a dull place, with all the students socialising on the platform as opposed to kicking a ball around, but that is the nature of social media.

The educational platform equivalent for ‘likes’ could be a suitable motivational incentive for modern children.

Using Social Media for ESL teaching | DigiNo

3. Online Teaching the Future of ESL Teaching?

As mentioned previously, being able to video chat with anyone globally nowadays has really opened up the possibilities of learning from cultural exchange.

If you wished to learn yoga from a a yogi master all the way in India, then all you both need is a Skype account and a clear space on your floor.

Live Anywhere | DigiNo

Online English teaching has opened way more opportunities for employment as a teacher and will continue to keep the career existing forever in DigiNo’s eyes.

Click the image below for an example website of the online English teaching platform:

Teach From Home with DaDaABC | DigiNo

4. Implementing Data Analysis to Improve ESL Teaching

Any online marketer will know the benefits of tracking and testing data using tools like Google Analytics.

Well how about as well as monitoring SEO and newsletter signups, we use analytical tools to measure the effectiveness of learning techniques for children?

Data Analysis for ESL Teaching | DigiNo

This links back to apps. The student could have data on their phone showing them graphs. These display how they are performing in reading skills compared to written English skills.

5. Playing Educational Games to Improve ESL Teaching

Educational games, such as Brain Metrix, could one day actually take over from the role of the teacher – which would put a stumbling block in our theory of teaching existing forever.

However, for now, I believe that no matter how advanced educational games get, they will still only be a suitable accompaniment to the guidance of a real, live, talking human role-model.

So you want to join us and become a DigiNo, but you have no idea what a Digital Nomad is?

Let me explain.

Have you ever been sat in your office looking out at the overcast sky at around 2pm? You’ve just had you half an hour lunch break that felt like 5 minutes and you are sat wondering what else is going on the big wide world whilst you spend the majority of your life in this grey office.

Sorry if that hit a little too close to the bone and made you fall off your spinny-chair, but it’s good to know that you are not alone in that feeling.

In fact, there are countless people who have ditched the office, swapped the desktop for a laptop and flocked to see what exactly is out there in the big wide world…without even filling out a holiday form.

The Life of a Digital Nomad

A Digital Nomad is not only someone who travels the world, but funds these travels by setting up online businesses and earning money from their laptop.

Doesn’t it sound great?

Imagine typing away on your MacBook on a white sand beach, sipping Margaritas in between each big cash windfall.

Become a Digital Nomad | DigiNo

The Reality of Life as a Digital Nomad

Ok, ok, so it won’t necessarily be like this. Sand isn’t great for MacBooks, beaches don’t get great WiFi and online money isn’t an easy thing to acquire.

You can still have the Margarita, but it will most likely be inside a quiet cafe or co-working space.

However, the appeal of being a Digital Nomad is stepping out of that cafe after finishing your work and having the freedom to set-up your office anywhere.

One of the more popular places is East Asia due to the low cost of living. This allows your online income to stretch a little further. You could be a Digital Nomad in somewhere New York, but unless your start making a good deal of money online, then your travels may be cut short. If that happens, you may end up back staring out of that office window.

And we don’t want that!

So How Do You Become a Digital Nomad?

What is the best way to earn money online from your laptop and surf the WiFi  waves from routers all over the world?
