ConvertKit's pricing is dependant on how many email subscribers you have. This is NOT on how many active subscribers you have, but the actual number.
Why did I emphasise that? I'll tell you after I reveal the numbers of the email list building tool.
Free Plan = $0
Here you can have up to 1000 subscribers, but without premium features, such as automated email sequencing.
To see what the ConvertKit Free Plan includes click the button below:
Up to 1000 Subscribers = $29 per month
If you wish to switch from the free plan and get the premium features, then you will be paying this amount until you exceed 1000 subscribers.
Up to 3000 Subscribers = $49 per month
A $20 dollar increase for the extra 2000 subscribers.
Up to 5000 Subscribers = $79 per month
Now it's upped by $30! But let's take a look how ConvertKit pricing evolves as you gain your following.
Let's Speed This Up…
It basically goes up in increments of $30 for every 10,000 subscribers – so let's skip to the end…
Up to 900,000 Subscribers = $3,999 per month
Wow, quite a leap! And finally…
900,001 – 1 million+ = Book a demo to talk to the team…
(To probably be awarded a ConvertKit t-shirt or coffee mug or something)
As you can see, the price grows as your brand grows – as it is naturally assumed that because you have so many subscribers, they are converting like crazy and you can afford it.
Read this before you gather subscribers:
Paying for extra subscribers is only worthwhile if they are actually hot subscribers or ‘Superfans' as ConvertKit advisor Pat Flynn would put it.
1000 True Fans
Kevin Kelly once wrote the article about how you only need 1000 true fans to make a living from your work.
If this is true, then you wouldn't need to be paying more than $29 per month for ConvertKit.
You just have to make sure these 1000 ConvertKit subscribers to your email list are actually opening your emails and clicking on your links.
My Experience with ConvertKit Pricing
I use ConvertKit to build an Online Teaching Job Network. At one point, had around 2400 subscribers and was paying for up to 3000 subscribers ($49 per month). However, I only had an email open rate of 40%.
This means only 960 of the subscribers were active and I was wasting $20 per month.
So I made sure to constantly be monitoring my ‘Cold Subscribers' and deleting at them to stay below the thresholds. I was carefully crafting my 1000 true fans slowly but surely (whilst not needlessly wasting $20 each month).
Quality over quantity is the best option when it comes to ConvertKit…as you could end up with a list of 900,000 at an open rate of 1%. You would be paying $3,999 per month for a $119 value list.
