It is very important in the online ESL teaching industry to have your eggs in more than one basket. Many teachers begin using VIPKID as their first company but when it is time to add a second company, I find teachers often thinking about Magic Ears or GoGoKid.
I began teaching with Magic Ears as my second company. I was comfortable teaching group classes since I had been a traditional brick and mortar teacher already so the 1:4 platform was not a concern coming from the 1:1 VIPKID environment.
Which company suits you the most?
Magic Ears offered one of the higher base pay offers in the industry at the time and had a track for advancing into leadership roles that was more transparent than VIPKID‘s track. Although I was fully booked at VIPKID, I know that many teachers struggle with bookings at VIPKID. VIPKID is a parent booked company and Magic Ears books the classes for the teachers. This makes Magic Ears a great option for teachers who really need to be making money right out of the gates.
While I was teaching at Magic Ears, GoGoKid became the new company on the block.
They offered a more competitive salary, the 1:1 classroom environment that I preferred, and opportunities for leadership positions which I valued. I felt GoGoKid‘s curriculum set students and teachers up for success more than the curriculum at Magic Ears and it was very easy to switch back and forth between VIPKID and GoGoKid within the same month, week, or even day.
While it was nice to have some bookings given by the company at Magic Ears, few Magic Ears teachers experience a fully booked schedule.
At GoGoKid I could fill my schedule with ease and make the best use of the times that I was available to teach. I left Magic Ears quickly and felt much better having two 1:1 companies to work with. There were many reasons that I felt Magic Ears was a company that I did not want to continue to be a part of and I discuss them in this video:
GoGoKid's journey began with incredible bonuses that first summer to convince teachers from other companies to give them a try and I came to GoGoKid with many of my VIPKID colleagues.
