My name is Jody Bryant and I’ve been an online teacher since 2012. I’ve worked for many companies and learned how to teach, engage, and motivate students in the online setting.
After teaching for many companies for many years, I decided it was time to venture out to teach classes on my own. But, I didn’t have a platform to teach on and many of the platforms were either expensive or did not have the tools I needed to teach effectively. A few weeks ago, I learned about a platform called Spitball. I’d like to tell you my experience with the platform and how you can get set up to teach lessons to students independently.
Spitball is a tutor marketplace and much more.
You can sell classes, sell content, sell subscriptions to your content, and charge your own class fee.
They leave you 91% of your class fee in your pocket too! Many tutor marketplaces like Preply and Wyzant take between 25% to 33% of your class fee. With Spitball, more money is in your pocket right away.
The small fee of 9% covers your use of the platform and it is very easy to move money from the Spitball platform to your own banking account. (Allow for credit card fees of 2-3% apply to move the money to your account.)
What can you teach?
Just about anything! Think of cooking classes, yoga classes, English classes, math classes, the world is your canvas. You can charge a class fee that you feel is fair.
When can you teach?
Anytime you wish!
Who can you teach?
Anyone you wish-the world is your marketplace!
What does Spitball provide?
This part is what makes Spitball so amazing! They provide the lesson space, the payment gateways, and the sales and marketing tools. Your students become your followers and you have access to communication with them through email and messaging systems.
How will people take classes?
Another notable part about Spitball is that your students can take classes from a computer, a smartphone, or a tablet. This gives you as a teacher a much bigger audience because your students can see you on multiple platforms.
Talk to me about your experience on Spitball
I’ve been teaching on Spitball since May of 2020. Below is a quick glance at my Spitball profile:
Lessons I’ve taught include:
- Just Say Hello-Finding Online Teacher Jobs-Average hourly wage=$30 an hour (Depends on student enrollment)
- Tips and Resources for Online Teachers-Average hourly wage=$40 an hour
- Kindergarten Reading Class=per half-hour class=$18
- More classes coming soon!
Just to be clear, these class enrollments have fluctuated so there are no guarantees how much you will earn per hour. My average hourly wage working for someone else is $27 an hour so as I increase my class attendance, my income will go up.
So how do you increase the class attendance?
You do have to market your classes to your intended audience, but Spitball makes it easy.
Here are sample images that Spitball made for my classes. All I need to do is to pop them into an email or post on social media sites.
Another plus about Spitball is the customer service. They are so helpful to answer questions and walk you through the many questions you may have.
I hope you will consider the opportunity to work on the Spitball platform. Of course, the hard work of preparing and teaching the class is up to you. Spitball helps you with the rest of the equation so you can build a solid online teaching business that is run by you!
