Learning Support Teacher

What Does a Learning Support Teacher Do?

Learning Support Teachers, also known as Special Education Teachers, are educators who specialize in working with students who have a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities. Their responsibilities include developing individualized education programs (IEPs) to meet each student's specific needs, adapting and modifying general education lessons to suit different learning styles and abilities, and providing targeted teaching to help students achieve their educational goals.

A Learning Support Teacher must have a deep understanding of special education, often holding a degree in special education, educational psychology, or a related field, along with a teaching certification in special education. They should be skilled in various teaching methods and interventions designed for students with special needs and be adept at collaborating with teachers, parents, and other professionals to provide comprehensive support.

These educators work in a variety of settings, including public and private schools, special education centers, and inclusive classrooms. Their role is critical in ensuring that students with disabilities receive a quality education that is tailored to their individual abilities and needs. Learning Support Teachers play a key role in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment, helping students with disabilities to develop their potential and prepare for further education or vocational opportunities.
