How to Build an AI Trainer Profile That Gets Accepted
Your profile decides which projects you are matched to, so write it for the person checking whether you can judge AI responses in your field.
A vague, generic resume is the most common rejection reason in round-ups of applicant reports. Mercor and Ethos both match people to projects using profile data, so a specific profile gives the matching more to work with.
What the Platforms Say They Look For
| Platform | What its own pages say (checked 2026-10-06 to 2026-10-08) |
|---|---|
| Mercor | Experts and professionals. You upload a PDF resume (a scanned image PDF is not read), which pre-fills your profile, then add short role summaries, key projects, measurable outcomes and your availability. Complete, accurate profiles are shown more often and reviewed faster, and your AI interview result carries over to other roles that use it. |
| Ethos | Experienced professionals aged 18 or over who can work as independent contractors where they live. Its AI tools and staff use your profile, work history and screening answers to pick experts for projects, and its privacy policy says it also draws on public data about you. Selection combines AI output with human review. |

Mercor adds that one completed assessment can qualify you for several roles, and that a strong profile can bring offers for roles you never applied to. Profiles are not a one-time form; they keep working for you.
Mercor also explains what the matching reads. Its AI looks at your resume, your interview transcript and public profiles such as LinkedIn and GitHub, and companies search profiles by keyword, for example a skill plus a country. Your pay expectations are not shown publicly.
Its referral guide lists what the people who get hired tend to have: a complete profile and a strong resume, an up-to-date LinkedIn with clear credentials, a profile photo, and a GitHub link where it is relevant.

Write It in Five Parts
Mistakes That Get Profiles Passed Over
- A generic resume with no clear field and no evidence of evaluating AI output, the most common rejection reason reported in one round-up of applicant reports.
- Claiming credentials you do not hold. Mercor's background check verifies degrees, past jobs and professional licenses, you confirm your profile is up to date before you sign an offer, and Ethos can remove experts whose screening answers are inaccurate.
- Leaving out your languages. Some clinical AI listings are multilingual cohorts that require a second language at an advanced (C1) level.
- Long keyword lists, exaggerated job titles and broken links. Mercor's profile guide asks you to fix all three before you apply.
- Spelling and grammar errors, on platforms that ask for clear, professional writing.

Match Your Profile to the Platform

What Working Trainers Say
In trainer forums on Reddit, the same profile advice comes up again and again.
- Lead with your strongest field and your years in it, tailor the resume to each role, and keep it current.
- Apply early. Sort listings by newest, since roles fill fast.
- Take every interview and assessment that matches your background. Each one adds to your profile.
- Expect rejections. Several trainers report dozens before a first contract.
- Watch your inbox. Many offers arrive as invitations to a project, with no application of your own.

Most of my effort went into my resume. I read the open roles first, worked out where I fit and which of my strengths they wanted, then wrote the resume to match.
I updated it again after each AI interview, because the questions showed me what they were really looking for.

AI Trainer Profile FAQ
What should I put on my AI trainer profile?
Your field and years of experience first, then three to five specific lines of work, your credentials exactly as issued, and the languages you can work in professionally.
Do I need AI experience for an AI trainer profile?
No. Mercor matches people on their experience, profile skills and assessment results.
Should I use AI to write my AI trainer profile?
Write it yourself, in your own words, so every line is something you can back up in the interview and screening questions. Mercor's AI policy allows AI for grammar and light polishing only, with the ideas and structure your own.
How long should an AI trainer profile be?
Short. A clear headline and three to five specific lines of experience beat a long list of skills.
Why was my AI trainer application rejected?
Common reasons are a vague profile, no clear field, errors in the writing, or a location the platform does not hire in.
