AI Training Guide · Step 3 of 11
Which AI Training Platform Is Right for You?
The right AI training platform depends on two things: your background and where you live. Platforms match people to projects on experience and results, and many listings only take people in certain countries, so start where you fit.
This guide covers the platforms DigiNo points people to, sorted by who they hire, so you apply where you fit instead of everywhere.
Start With Your Background
The Platforms Compared
| Platform | Who it hires | How you get in | How work and pay run |
|---|---|---|---|
| micro1 | Specialists and generalists, including language and transcription roles; prior AI experience is not required | Apply to a role, then a skill-based AI interview with Zara and a government ID check | Each role lists an hourly range. Projects pay hourly, per task or a flat fee, twice a month in USD through Deel |
| Ethos | Experienced professionals aged 18 or over, working as independent contractors | Screening questions for each project; Ethos uses AI tools to screen and match, and you can ask for a human review | Rates agreed for each project, paid on an agreed cycle or at project end, after you invoice |
| Mercor | Experts and professionals. Each listing names the countries it hires in; Mercor says one that names none is open by default to the US, Canada, the UK and the EU, and there are some countries where it cannot onboard anyone | Profile, assessments and an AI interview; passing an assessment once can qualify you for several roles | Hourly contracts are the most common, paid weekly on Wednesday; some projects pay per completed deliverable |
| Your top pick in the AI Training Job Matcher | Depends on your answers | Answer two questions about your background and languages | Links you to the official listing of the platform that fits you |
Pay is set per listing and per project and changes with the field, so check the live listing before you apply.

Listed Mercor Pay by Field
Mercor shows an hourly range on most open listings, and the range moves a long way by field. Ethos agrees rates for each project instead.
| Field | Open listings | Listed hourly range | Range shown |
|---|---|---|---|
| Science (life, physical and social) | 55 | $60 to $110 | Middle half |
| Mixed and generalist roles | 50 | $50 to $200 | Middle half |
| Software engineering | 35 | $61 to $150 | Middle half |
| Other engineering | 33 | $45 to $120 | Middle half |
| Languages and audio | 27 | $18 to $100 | Middle half |
| Business operations | 23 | $60 to $110 | Middle half |
| Medicine and nursing | 21 | $70 to $178 | Middle half |
| Arts and design | 20 | $30 to $102 | Middle half |
| Law | 19 | $65 to $145 | Middle half |
| Finance | 17 | $60 to $135 | Middle half |
| Data analysis | 16 | $49 to $120 | Middle half |
These are the hourly ranges the listings state, not what anyone will earn. Actual pay depends on the project, and a listing is no guarantee of work. Middle half means the lowest and highest quarter of listings in that field are left out, so one unusual listing does not stretch the range. Open listings counts every listing in the field; the range uses the hourly ones only.

How to Choose in Practice
- Check location rules first. Each Mercor listing states the countries it hires in, and Mercor publishes a list of places where it cannot onboard anyone, including Kenya, Pakistan and Ukraine. It does not sponsor visas.
- Match your strongest credential. Mercor matches people to roles on professional experience, past interview and assessment results, and the skills on their profile.
- Apply to two platforms in the same week, so a quiet week on one is covered. micro1 lets you apply to as many roles as you qualify for.
- Read the requirements before you start an assessment. Mercor says most of its assessments allow only one submission.

How I'd Pick a Platform Today
If I was starting out today, I'd look for the same things I looked for when I picked mine.
First, lots of posts on Reddit from people actually getting paid, and a support team that's attentive there. If a platform shows activity in a public space, that's a good sign.
Second, an easy application. With the AI interviews, you can see straight away that something is happening with your application. I want that clear timeline.
Third, and this one is critical, the platform needs jobs that suit you. Ethos might lean toward a higher expertise level, in things like coding. I don't have a big background in coding, so it might not be the best platform for me.
If you're more of a language teacher, look at places like Mercor. Don't assume these platforms are only for people in America. There's a big demand for bilingual people, and the pay reflects that.
I wouldn't change my choice. My own experience was pleasant, and the application process felt professional and well organized.
Once you're in, you're brought into a community on Discord or similar. Doing AI interviews on a platform can feel a little soulless, but when the community comes in, it starts to feel like you're part of something. That's the feeling you want.

Which AI training platforms hire outside the US?

Which platform is best with no experience?
micro1 says prior AI experience is not required, and it lists generalist and language roles alongside specialist ones. Ethos and Mercor mostly list roles for people with professional experience. Not sure? Answer the two questions in the AI Training Job Matcher.
