How Each Route Is Worked Out
- Wise: free to receive a US bank transfer, 6.11 USD to receive a wire, then a conversion fee by currency (for example 0.33% plus 0.58 USD to a UK bank) at the mid-market rate, as listed on Wise on 2026-10-12.
- Revolut (Standard plan, UK and Ireland): no Revolut fee to receive a bank transfer. Weekday exchanges are free up to 1,000 GBP or 1,000 EUR a month, then 1%; weekend exchanges cost 1%. Revolut uses its own rate, which can differ from the mid-market rate. As listed on Revolut on 2026-10-12.
- PayPal: no fee to receive with no conversion, then a conversion spread of 3% to 4% above PayPal's base rate, depending on your country's page, as listed on PayPal on 2026-10-12.
- Payoneer: 1% to receive into a currency that is not your local one (minimum 1 USD), then 1.2% to 4% to withdraw with conversion, as listed on Payoneer on 2026-10-12.
- Bank wire: intermediary banks may take 15 to 50 USD on a Swift transfer, as listed on Revolut's help page on 2026-10-12. Your own bank's fee and exchange rate vary by bank, so they are not included.
The calculator assumes nothing else was exchanged this month and that you send the money to a bank account in your own country.
Which AI Training Platforms Pay How
Ethos pays experts through Revolut and Wise, after a check of your country of residence.
Mercor sets contracts in US dollars and pays through Stripe, or through Wise in countries Stripe does not support. The provider converts to your local currency at payout, so you do not pick the route. Stripe Instant Payout has a 1% fee.

What is the cheapest way to receive US dollars from an AI training platform?
It depends on the amount, your currency and the day you convert. On the fees listed on 2026-10-12, Wise charged 0.33% plus 0.58 USD to convert US dollars to pounds and send them to a UK bank, and Revolut Standard had no exchange fee on weekdays up to 1,000 GBP a month. PayPal listed a 3% spread above its base rate for UK accounts. Run your own numbers in the calculator above.
Does Revolut charge more to exchange money on weekends?
Yes, on the Standard plan. Revolut lists a 1% fee on exchanges made between 17:00 Friday and 18:00 Sunday Eastern Time, and a 1% fee on weekday exchanges over 1,000 GBP or 1,000 EUR in a rolling month (UK and Ireland help pages, checked 2026-10-12).
Why did less arrive than I was sent by international wire?
Swift payments can pass through intermediary banks. Revolut's help page says these may charge 15 to 50 USD. Your own bank may also charge to receive and use its own exchange rate, which varies by bank.
Can I choose how Mercor pays me?
Not the route. Mercor's payment docs say contracts are in US dollars and payouts go through Stripe, or through Wise in countries Stripe does not support, and the provider converts to your local currency at payout. Ethos pays through Revolut and Wise.
