How Alignerr Works
Alignerr is powered by Labelbox. You apply to individual jobs, and each one shows its pay, its tests and its requirements.
The roles on its homepage on 2026-10-13 ran from a Generalist and a Prompt Writer to language experts and customer support task authors. The jobs page was mostly software developer listings and audio transcription roles in specific languages.
| Role on Alignerr | Listed at |
|---|---|
| Generalist | $40-120/hr |
| Prompt Writer | $40-120/hr |
| Customer Support Task Author | $20-50/hr |
| AI Language Expert, Portuguese | $25-30/hr |
| Software Developer, own project with an AI coding assistant | $60-120/hr |
These are listed ranges, not earnings. Alignerr also tracks a quality score that decides which projects you get next.

How Outlier Works
Outlier's FAQ says it is a platform operated by Scale AI. You onboard once, choose your areas of expertise and pass skill screenings, then get invited to projects.
The work is writing hard prompts with correct answers, writing grading rubrics, and rating and ranking AI responses. Outlier warns that projects may not always match your field.
You need a valid ID and phone number from your country of residence, a resume, a LinkedIn profile and at least an associate degree. Outlier calls its screening selective.
Outlier does not publish rates. Its FAQ says they vary by expertise, project complexity and location, and that you see the rate before you start.
Our Outlier review goes deeper on pay and support.

Problems on Both Platforms
- Alignerr's own FAQ has a question for people whose account was deactivated and who were not paid for completed work. Appeals go through its Trust and Safety team.
- Trainers on the Alignerr subreddit report removed accounts after the ID check, unpaid hours after paused projects and slow support, from our review of threads to 2026-10-10.
- Outlier's owner, Scale AI, is in a pending class action settlement brought by former contractors over alleged wage and hour violations. The defendants deny wrongdoing, and the final approval hearing is set for 2026-10-30.

What Trainers Say on Reddit
A June 2026 thread in the Alignerr subreddit, started by someone dropped by Outlier and hired by Alignerr the same week, drew 87 comments comparing the two.
- Trainers say most Alignerr tasks are paid only after the work is reviewed and accepted, while Outlier pays for submitted work. Rejected Alignerr work can go unpaid.
- Several waited months after passing an Alignerr assessment before being placed on a project.
- On the Outlier side, trainers describe automated bans and long gaps without tasks.
- The original poster said updating their resume got them hired, and the most repeated advice was to join every platform you can.
