Yes, AfterQuery is a real company that pays experts to build AI training data. It is a San Francisco research lab that sells datasets to AI labs, and its expert site lists every role with an hourly rate. Some trainers on Reddit say they were hired and then got no work, so keep other options open after an offer.
Everything below comes from AfterQuery's own site, expert site and help center, read on 2026-10-12, plus a pass through r/AiTraining_Annotation the same day. DigiNo has no link with AfterQuery and earns nothing from it.
Is AfterQuery Legit?
AfterQuery calls itself an applied research lab that curates training data for frontier AI models. Its homepage lists the data it builds: example responses with step-by-step reasoning, grading rubrics, test environments for AI agents and recordings of people using software.
Its careers page lists staff jobs in San Francisco. The expert side runs on a separate site, experts.afterquery.com, with its own help center.
You join as an independent contractor, not an employee. The help center says real emails come only from notifications@afterquery.com or a person's own @afterquery.com address.

What the Work Looks Like
AfterQuery hires people with advanced degrees or deep work experience. Its expert site names software engineers, PhDs, and professionals in finance, law, data science, health and business.
Its FAQ lists these kinds of work.
- Programming and technical review.
- Research analysis and data analysis.
- Content development, such as writing and evaluating test scenarios.
- Specialized consulting in your own field.
There is also a project called Milo, where engineers and scientists turn real engineering code into tasks that test AI models. On 2026-10-12 the jobs board ran to 14 pages.

How AfterQuery Pays
AfterQuery's FAQ says experts are paid per task or project at rates set up front. Here is what a few listings showed on the day we checked.
| Role on AfterQuery | Listed at |
|---|---|
| Medical MD Expert | $160/hr |
| Attorney | $137.5/hr |
| Actuary Expert | $115/hr |
| General AfterQuery Expert (Data Annotator) | $42.5/hr |
| Bilingual Audio Contributor | $30/hr |
| Content Writer and Evaluator, Global | $15/hr |
These are the rates the listings state, not what anyone will earn. How many hours you get depends on which projects pick you.
- Money goes out through Stripe, to a bank account in your own legal name. Stripe does not pay to cards.
- Each week closes Sunday at 11:59 PM Pacific time, and AfterQuery releases pay the following Friday.
- It usually reaches your bank 2 to 3 business days later. Stripe holds your very first payout for 7 days.
- Pay covers approved work only, so hours still under review can move to a later week.
Check your country before you start. AfterQuery's help center lists countries it cannot pay, including Brazil, Nigeria, Egypt, Bangladesh, Argentina, Colombia, Japan and South Korea, and asks people there not to begin work.

How Signing Up Works
- Create an account and apply to a role.
- Do an interview, either with the team or as a recorded video.
- Take a short skills assessment in your field.
- Finish onboarding by signing an NDA and a data form, verifying your phone and ID with Persona, and setting up Stripe.
- Wait to be invited to a project that fits your skills.
Take the assessment seriously. AfterQuery's help center says each pool has one assessment, you get one attempt, and you will not see a pass or fail. They follow up if a project fits.
Onboarding takes about 10 to 15 minutes. You sign in with Google, so always use the same Google account, because a second account breaks the one-account-per-person rule. Linking LinkedIn is optional, but AfterQuery says it improves your chances of being picked.

What Trainers Say on Reddit
We read comments that mention AfterQuery in r/AiTraining_Annotation from July to October 2026. Trainers on Reddit say the pay side works.
- One trainer says AfterQuery paid weekly, and another says Stripe payouts went smoothly.
- Others describe it as a newer platform that has grown fast.
Most complaints are about getting work.
- One person accepted a role in August and heard nothing after several emails.
- Another was hired for accounting and finance work but could never submit a task.
- Others mention weak communication and stretches with no work or no hiring.
Finishing onboarding does not mean work will follow soon. Keep other applications going while you wait.
