Yes, Mindrift is legit. It is the AI training platform of Toloka, a Dutch AI data company, and it pays contractors twice a month through Payoneer or Tipalti.
It also has slow patches between projects, and its terms let it refuse pay for rejected work. Here is how it works, who gets in, what it lists for pay, and what trainers on Reddit report, all checked on 2026-10-12.
Is Mindrift Legit?
Mindrift is owned by Toloka, which is based in Amsterdam. Olga Megorskaya is CEO of both.
Mindrift says it has more than 20,000 AI trainers across 90 domains and 20 languages, and that 70% of them hold a Master's degree or PhD. It lists SOC 2 Type II, ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 security certifications.
Mindrift is clear that the work is not a job. There is no employment contract and no fixed hours, and you work as an independent contractor. Joining is free.
Toloka's own contributor tasks have moved to Mindrift. If you are searching for Toloka, our Toloka review explains the move.

Two Ways to Join Mindrift
Specialized Projects
- Find an open project that matches your field.
- Apply with an up-to-date CV.
- Complete the assessments and verify your identity.
- Join the project or its talent pool.
- Complete tasks and get paid.
These projects ask for real subject knowledge, usually backed by a degree and professional experience in fields such as maths, law, medicine or design.
All-Access Tasks
You register with basic details and start on tasks open to everyone. There is no application and no education or experience requirement. Mindrift says these tasks are quicker and tend to pay less.
You do not need AI or coding experience for either route. Mindrift provides the onboarding.

What Mindrift AI Trainers Do
- Write realistic prompts and questions of the kind a real user would ask.
- Evaluate AI responses by rating them, ranking them, comparing two side by side, or flagging problems.
- Write a better version of a response, or build a conversation over several turns.
- Justify your ratings in writing.
- Label, tag or transcribe existing data.
You work in a team overseen by a quality assurance specialist, with a Discord server for questions.
Some projects involve sensitive content. Those can require you to be 21 or older, cap the work at 2 hours per day, and let you opt out within a day.

How Mindrift Pays
Payouts go through Payoneer or Tipalti, which includes PayPal. Pay is processed on the 5th and the 20th of each month, covering two work cycles: the 1st to the 15th, and the 16th to month end.
Every task shows a fixed reward before you start. You are paid only for tasks that are completed and accepted.
These rates are listed on Mindrift's own pages today:
| Work | Listed at | Where it is listed |
|---|---|---|
| Specialized projects | $15 to $100+ per hour | Mindrift apply page FAQ |
| Entry level | $15 to $30 per hour | Mindrift home page |
| Domain experts | $60 to $100+ per hour | Mindrift home page |
| Video recording of everyday activities | $5 to $15 per hour | Mindrift apply page |
They are listed ranges, not a promise of income. Your rate depends on the project and your field.
The terms add three things to know. A rejected task can go unpaid, with partial pay if part of it was usable. You have 7 days to object. Assessments are unpaid unless stated.

The Downsides to Know
Work depends on client demand. Mindrift's FAQ says that once a project ends there is likely to be a period with limited or no tasks.
It blocks people who give unhelpful responses or are not qualified, and asks trainers not to use AI-written content. The terms ban bots, scripts and AI agents unless a task allows them.
Some countries are excluded. The eligibility page lists sanctioned countries such as Russia and Iran, plus places it cannot support for payments or identity checks, such as Kenya, Switzerland and Taiwan.

- The platform can feel empty after a big project ends.
- Commenters say accepted tasks are still paid after you are removed from a project.
- Low quality warnings can send you back through training and an exam.
- On expert projects, some report slow reviews, rejections they disagreed with, and removal with only part of their work paid.
