Yes, Remotasks is a real platform. It is run by Scale AI, and it says it pays taskers weekly. It is also a platform that has shut whole countries out before, and much of the talk about it now happens alongside Outlier, Scale AI's other contributor platform. Check that it is open where you live before you put in hours of training.
Everything below comes from Remotasks' own site and policies, read on 2026-10-12, a 2024 news report, and a pass through Reddit the same day. DigiNo has no link with Remotasks or Scale AI and earns nothing from either.
Is Remotasks Legit?
The Remotasks homepage says it is powered by Scale AI, available in more than 90 countries and has more than 240,000 taskers. It says taskers are paid weekly through PayPal or AirTM.
Scale AI also runs Outlier, which its site describes as a platform connecting experts with AI companies to give feedback that improves language models.
You work as an independent contractor. The community rules ban multiple accounts, using a VPN to hide your location, and using bots, scripts or outside tools on tasks unless a Remotasks admin asks you to.

What the Work Looks Like
Remotasks describes three kinds of tasks that train AI.
- Labeling images.
- Transcribing audio.
- Annotating data.
You learn each task type through short online courses or free hands-on training, then work on the projects that training opens up. Remotasks says harder tasks pay more once you are trained on them.
Pay is per task, based on how many you complete and their quality. The homepage does not list a rate per task.

Who Can Join
Remotasks' location policy says its generative AI projects are only open in some countries, and that list can change by project. You may have to verify your identity and location with a government ID.
Once verified, that country becomes your Primary Country, and you can only work from there. If you move, you need to update it with support, or your account can be paused.
People in countries under US export restrictions, such as Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan and Syria, cannot use it at all. Work is handed out based on your onboarding, your hardware and software, and where you are.

The 2024 Country Shutdowns
In March 2024, Rest of World reported that Remotasks shut down in Kenya, Nigeria and Pakistan, and stopped taking new sign-ups in Thailand, Vietnam and Poland.
Kenyan workers were cut off on 2024-03-07. Scale AI told Rest of World the closures came from stricter security protocols and declined to say which countries were affected. It said notices were sent to Kenyan workers three weeks ahead but did not arrive because of an error, and apologized.
This matters if you are deciding where to put your time. A country can lose access with little warning, so keep at least one other platform going.

What Taskers Say on Reddit
The official Remotasks subreddit has been quiet since 2023. Most talk now sits in r/beermoney, which runs a monthly joint megathread for Remotasks and Outlier and removes separate posts about either.
- A tasker in the Philippines says it has been consistent for them over a couple of years, pays in US dollars, and that you should expect training modules first.
- Another says the community moved from Discord to Slack, which made it harder to join projects, and that some people say the work has moved to Outlier.
- Some readers say Remotasks does not accept sign-ups from their country.
- In the same megathread, Outlier taskers describe task supply that comes and goes without warning and support that sends generic replies.
That is a small sample, so treat it as a sign of what to check, not a verdict. The official policy, the news report and the Reddit threads all show that access depends on where you live.
