4 Low-Stress Jobs After Retirement (From Home and Outdoors)

low-stress jobs after retirement

If you are seeking low-stress jobs after retirement, then you may already know that – retiring can be one of the more daunting things people will do in their lives.

It sounds insane, because you spend so much of your adult life working towards it; but some may find a little loss of purpose in your day to day, which is difficult to get your head around.

That’s why fun jobs for retirees are always in high demand: they give you something to do when you’ve finished working. However, you may still want to leave behind the stress of working forever, which is why we have put together a list of low-stress jobs after retirement.

An Example of a Cool Retirement Job is Teaching Online

A common misconception is that teach from home jobs are a young person’s game, but this just isn’t the case.

At DigiNo, we’ve always been big believers in online teaching being a great role for anyone and everyone – teachers of all ages are welcome and much sought-after…you just have to find the right platform.

Teaching online is regularly handpicked to be one of the best jobs for seniors over 60, and even one of the most fulfilling jobs for seniors over 70! The fact that it happens to be one of the most low stress jobs after retirement is probably not a coincidence…

But we’re not totally miopic; we know that teaching English online isn’t necessarily what every retiree wants to do with their free time – so we’ve included a couple things which have nothing at all to do with teaching online, but will still get a retiree out of the house for some fresh air and all-important socialising. Don’t say we never treat you.

But if you are interested in teaching online, we've included a couple of the best platforms to apply to at the end of this list.

1) Dog Walker

We’ll start easy, focussing on a job that’s nice rather than a job that pays well.

If you’re retired you’re probably not too concerned about raking in the big bucks, so you have the ability to focus on doing something you’ll enjoy.

If you’re an animal person then you might really enjoy being a dog walker.

This is one of those cool retirement jobs that you just can’t do at any other time in your life.

You can do it on a small scale, like offering your services to a neighbour, or you could go bigger and target your local town or city. This is one of the most low-stress jobs after retirement, and it doesn’t take a scientist to figure out why.

This is one of these much sought-after part time jobs for seniors at home, which is guaranteed to get you out and about in the fresh air.

Keeping active as a retiree is really important, and several retirement job ideas have a strong focus on being outdoors.

This job will guarantee you fresh air, exercise, and even a little canine company.

You could even use an app like Rover or TrustedHousesitters to get you started on exploring the possibilities.

2. Driver

There are multiple different ways you can get into driving as a retiree.

Whether you want to drive part time for a local supermarket or self-promote as a taxi or Uber driver, the end result is largely the same.

This doesn’t necessarily tick the box as being one of those retirement jobs from home, but that’s kind of the point.

Working as a driver will get you out into the world and ensure that as a retiree, or possibly even as a senior over 60 or 70, you don’t fully detach from society.

Staying active and staying social are the two most important parts of staying healthy, both mentally and physically; so keeping one foot in the workplace is a good way to keep yourself centered. Although driving itself can be stressful, so you may find it useful to research this list of best herbs for mental clarity and focus with a job that requires a lot of focus.

3. Charity Work

It's true that the world has plenty of people in it that are in need of real help.

‘Giving back’ is a great way to ensure that your spare time is being put to good use doing something genuinely productive.

Some charities offer paid positions, but more often than not they’ll be looking for volunteers. This could be anything from helping with fundraising such as organizing online donations, planning restaurant fundraisers or charity events, to collecting donations or maybe helping in the charity shop.

Charity shops have so many people wanting to volunteer that it actually isn’t a case of turning up on the day to lend a hand – you have to go through an application process, just as you would for a new job.

In a way, it’s nice to know that the world is so overflowing with people looking to donate their time to help others that there needs to be an entire process to sift through them.

4. Cambly

Great part-time retirement job from home

Teaching online doesn’t really encourage you to get out of the house, so that’s something you’re still going to need to take care of yourself…

But every other box for a retiree is ticked by online teaching.

It’s social, it’s flexible, it gives you structure to your day and it’s productive. It also helps to keep the mind active, which is very important.

When you’re looking at jobs for seniors over 70, or even the best jobs for seniors over 60, there has to be an emphasis on keeping the mind active.

Truly a low-stress job after retirement

This is one of the most low-stress jobs after retirement available on the market right now, and great for someone looking to keep themselves occupied throughout the day.

There are a whole host of online teaching platforms, as you will see from the partial list below:

  • Amazing Talker
  • Allschool
  • Preply
  • PalFish

But for argument’s sake we’re going to use Cambly today because it's already proven as a great choice for retirees to earn by chatting.

Cambly is an online teaching platform which emphasises the international aspect of teaching online.

You’ll be encouraged to speak with students from all over the world, and Cambly rely on their retirees to share their wisdom (while earning a larger pay cheque than is offered by the other jobs in our list, just so you know…).

Native speakers are desperately needed for this rapidly growing online community. If you don’t have that passionate spark for teaching children then Cambly is a great choice, as their priority is teaching adults.

Other benefits of Cambly:

  • A way to give back to the world/make an impact in your twilight years
  • Learn more about other cultures – “travel” from the comfort of your own home
  • Many retirees at Cambly say that:

“Cambly is the best job they've ever had.”

“Engaging and tutoring the younger generation gives me energy and life.”

So if you’re thinking of something a little different, and something that might put a little money in your pocket, then Cambly is a great place for you.

Something that we have yet to mention, is that on Cambly you can also teach kids.

Cambly Kids is a near-identical service to Cambly, but with the sole purpose of teaching English to children rather than adults.

Fun job after retirement?

This would be a great choice for those seniors and retirees out there who want to work with children, and who liked the idea of Cambly but felt put off by working with adults.

However, Cambly Kids isn't necessarily recommended for retirees as it does require a lot more energy than teaching adults online. We have left it here anyway in case teaching kids is something you would like to do, but for a truly low-stress job after retirement, then teaching adults on Cambly is a safer bet than Cambly Kids.

Or if you are a retired business person with a minimum of 10 years of management experience, then online business coaching on Excedo might be a low-stress job after retirement perfectly suited to you.
