Yes, Lionbridge is a real company, and it pays freelancers for AI data work. Most of what it posts today is transcription, audio recording and short survey tasks, each tied to one language and one country.
If you remember Lionbridge AI from a few years ago, that business was sold to TELUS International at the end of 2020. Lionbridge has since built a new AI data team under its own name, and that is what this review covers.
Everything below comes from Lionbridge's own pages and job board, read on 2026-10-12, plus a pass through Reddit the same day. DigiNo has no link with Lionbridge and earns nothing from it.
Is Lionbridge Legit?
Lionbridge Technologies is a translation and localization company. Its about page says it has worked for more than 25 years and covers more than 350 languages.
Its freelance community page lists AI training, translation, interpreting and game testing work, with a crowd of more than 500,000 people across 450 locales.
Its careers page sets out clear scam rules:
- Recruiters write only from @lionbridge.com addresses.
- Real postings appear on its careers site and are also shared through its official LinkedIn and Lever pages.
- Lionbridge never asks you to send money, buy gift cards, or hand over bank, PayPal or card details outside its official process.
- Video interviews run only on Microsoft Teams, never on Telegram or Messenger.

What Happened to Lionbridge AI
TELUS International bought 100 percent of Lionbridge AI in a deal that closed on 2020-12-31. TELUS announced the final completion on 2021-03-02, after a US government review.
TELUS International has since renamed itself TELUS Digital. If you worked on an old Lionbridge AI rating program, that work now sits with TELUS, not Lionbridge.
Lionbridge itself went back into AI data later. Its site now has an AI Data Services section and a separate contributor site, and its job board files these postings under a team called AI Data Training.

What the Work Looks Like
Lionbridge's contributor site lists six kinds of task:
- Collecting data, such as voice clips or images.
- Rating AI output and giving feedback.
- Labeling and tagging data.
- Editing and correcting text.
- Transcribing or rating speech.
- Writing, testing and refining prompts.
On 2026-10-12 its job board held 55 postings, all remote. Most were transcriber roles for one language each, plus remote audio tasks, speech recording projects and smartphone surveys.
The transcriber postings ask you to turn podcasts and conversations into text, label speakers and follow a style guide. They also ask for at least four hours of availability during scheduled shifts.
Every role is freelance. Lionbridge's FAQ says you are an independent contractor, not an employee, and projects can last a day or run for months.

How Signing Up Works
- Browse open projects and pick ones that match your languages and skills.
- Fill in a short application, accept the Customer Service Agreement and take any required assessment.
- If you are approved, Lionbridge sends onboarding materials and agreements.
- Start tasks in its AuroraStudio platform or another tool the project names.
If nothing fits yet, Lionbridge runs a worldwide general application. You must be 18 or older with a steady internet connection, and it says it will contact you when a project matches your profile.
A computer or phone and a stable connection cover most tasks. Some need a headset, a set browser or a quiet room.

|---|---|---|
| US English Transcriber | $25-34/hr | United States |
| Transcriber (US English) | $20/hr | United States |

None of the official pages we read say how or how often Lionbridge pays. Ask before you sign the agreement.

What Contributors Say on Reddit
We read recent Lionbridge threads in r/WorkOnline. These points came up most.
- Several people were unsure whether emails from a Lever address were real. Lionbridge's own careers page says it shares postings through Lever, so check the posting on its board before you reply.
- Some applied for what looked like plain transcription and only learned from a follow-up email that the work trains AI.
- People who sat the entry tests say grammar, punctuation, speaker labels and the style guide matter more than typing speed.
- One applicant was asked for a background check with both a passport and a driver's license, and felt uneasy sharing both. Others in the thread said their Lionbridge work was real.
