Yes, Turing is a real company. It was founded in 2018, is based in San Francisco, and hires developers, scientists and other experts as contractors to build the coding and reasoning data AI labs train on. The work is real, but getting in is slow, most listings do not show pay, and trainers on Reddit report long silences and ID check trouble.
Everything below comes from Turing's own site, help center and jobs board, read on 2026-10-12, plus a pass through the AI training subreddit the same day. DigiNo has no link with Turing and earns nothing from it.
Is Turing Legit?
Turing's help center says it was founded in 2018 by its CEO, Jonathan Siddharth, and has built a talent network of over four million engineers, data scientists and PhDs.
Today it sells training data to AI labs, builds custom AI systems for companies and places tech talent with clients. Turing also says OpenAI picked it in 2022 to supply coding data for ChatGPT.
The company behind the site is Turing Enterprises, Inc., with a San Francisco mailing address in its footer.

What the Work Looks Like
Turing splits its contractor work into two kinds. AI advancement means using your field to help AI labs improve their models. Application engineering means building AI tools for companies.
The jobs board listed 253 roles on 2026-10-12, sorted into software, data and AI, science, business, finance, healthcare, languages, legal and cloud. Three listings we opened show the range:
- The Scientific Coding, Physics and Python role has you write physics problems with sub-problems, solve them in Python and add unit tests. It asks for a Master's or PhD, 40 hours a week with four hours of overlap with US Pacific time, for 8 weeks, and is open in a set list of countries such as India, Brazil, Kenya and Vietnam.
- The Domain Expert, Python role has you build realistic tasks for testing AI coding agents, with test suites, and review how the agents handle them. It asks for 8 or more years of software experience and at least 20 hours a week, for 4 to 8 weeks.
- The Medical Expert, Dermatology role reviews AI medical content and skin images. It is open only to licensed US dermatologists with 5 years of practice after residency.
All three are contractor roles with no medical or paid leave. Turing's coding and STEM roles lean heavily toward experienced developers and graduate-level scientists.

How Turing Pays
None of the listings we opened stated an hourly rate. The dollar figure printed on each listing card is a referral bonus Turing pays if you refer someone who gets hired, not the pay for the job.
Turing's help center says hours you log are processed on the 5th of each month, and that money can take a few more days to reach your account. Some projects run their contracts and payments through Deel, a contractor payment service, and others pay straight to your bank.
You work as an independent contractor and handle your own taxes. Turing does not sponsor visas.
Turing's offboarding rules are strict. Passing off AI-written work as your own, or using AI to do assigned tasks, can mean instant removal, no pay for that work and a permanent ban.

How Applying Works
- Create a profile with your work history, skills and rate.
- Pick a role on the jobs board, fill in a short form and submit. Some roles send you straight to tests.
- Wait for review. Turing says this takes anywhere from 48 hours to 6 weeks.
- If you are shortlisted, expect an interview. Turing says one is typically required for every role, and the client makes the final call.
- Once selected, sign the terms, set up two-step login, verify your ID, and add tax and payment details.
Turing only contacts people it moves forward. If you hear nothing within 6 weeks, it says you were most likely not selected, and it does not give feedback. After a formal rejection you wait three months before reapplying to the same role.
The ID check accepts only a passport or a driver's license, not a digital national ID. A final rejection after manual review cannot be appealed, so have one of those documents ready before you accept an offer.
Strong written and spoken English is required, since you work with US-based clients.

What Trainers Say on Reddit
We read Turing comments in r/AiTraining_Annotation from June to October 2026. Opinions are split, and the complaints repeat.
- Applications sit for weeks, then move to archived with no word, and some listings stay up long after they look filled.
- ID checks fail for people using national ID cards, which can block onboarding after an offer.
- Assessments can be confusing. One trainer describes a long trial followed by emails asking why nothing was submitted.
- A few people say they were not paid for work, or were locked out after a verification problem.
Others are happy. One trainer describes steady generalist work for about seven months with weekly team calls, and another says Turing gave consistent STEM work even though another platform paid more.
Assessments may ask to record your screen. Trainers say this is an anti-cheating step, so close personal tabs first and only start from turing.com, never from a link a stranger sends you.

How Turing Compares With Mercor and Ethos
| Turing | Mercor | Ethos | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How you get in | Profile, short form, tests for some roles, then interviews | An AI interview of about 20 minutes, with up to three retakes | An AI voice interview, then matching to projects |
| Type of work | Coding, STEM and expert tasks, often 20 to 40 hours a week for set weeks | Role listings you apply to directly | Expert calls, surveys, written reports, review and annotation |
| How you are paid | Monthly, around the 5th, to your bank or through Deel | Every Wednesday for the week before, through Stripe or Wise | Revolut or Wise, after a country check |
| Saying no | Reject any offer you get | Apply only to the listings you want | You can decline any project |
Turing suits experienced developers and scientists who can commit fixed weekly hours to a contract. Mercor and Ethos run expert projects for people with a professional background and pay on shorter cycles.

Should You Apply to Turing?
If you are a developer with years of production experience, or hold a graduate degree in a science, Turing is worth an application. Apply to more than one role, because each is reviewed separately and the client decides.
Do not wait on it alone. Reviews can take six weeks with no reply, so keep other applications going, and read how to tell real AI training jobs from scams before you share any ID.
