Yes, Braintrust is a real company, founded in 2018 and based in San Francisco. Most of its business today is selling hiring and automation software to large companies, with a talent network and some AI training gig work alongside. Talent pays no fees and the AI training page lists pay by task type, but there is very little first-hand feedback from trainers online.
Everything below comes from Braintrust's own site and terms, read on 2026-10-12, plus a pass through the AI training subreddit the same day. DigiNo has no link with Braintrust and earns nothing from it.
Is Braintrust Legit?
Braintrust's about page calls it an AI infrastructure company. It sells three products: an AI interview tool for recruiters, a workflow automation service, and a talent marketplace it says has more than 2 million vetted members.
It says it was co-founded in 2018 by Adam Jackson, grew as a contract marketplace for tech workers, and added AI training work in 2022. It also says thousands of contributors now work on AI training projects each month.
Braintrust has its own crypto token, BTRST, launched in 2021. Its fee terms say invoices and payments are made in regular money.
You join as an independent contractor, not an employee.

What You Pay and What Clients Pay
Braintrust says it has never charged talent a fee and never takes a cut of your rate. Its fee terms say the client pays a 15 percent platform fee on top of the rate you agree.
Payments go out through processors such as Stripe or Wise. Any fees those services charge, including currency conversion, are yours to cover.

AI Training Work on Braintrust
Braintrust's AI training page describes remote gig tasks for people with expertise in a field. You do not need an AI background, and there are no minimum hours.
- Rating and ranking AI responses.
- Labeling text, images and code.
- Checking AI output in your field, such as medicine or law.
- Writing prompts and test questions.
- Testing models for weak spots and safety problems.
- Reviewing and writing code.
The page lists a pay range for each task type:
| Task type on Braintrust | Listed at |
|---|---|
| Data labeling | $20-45/hr |
| Rating and ranking AI responses | $25-60/hr |
| Prompt and content creation | $35-80/hr |
| Red teaming | $50-120/hr |

These are ranges Braintrust publishes for each type of task, not what anyone will earn. The page says you see the rate before you start a task.
The AI training page says gig payments are processed weekly. For hourly contracts, the general fee terms say Braintrust starts payment within 30 days of an invoice, or once the client has paid.

How Joining Works
- Build your profile. Braintrust says this takes about 20 minutes.
- Take a short AI skills interview. Some sections can be retaken after a waiting period.
- Get certified. Braintrust checks your ID and skills, which it says takes one to two days.
- Get matched to roles, or browse AI training tasks in your dashboard. You can turn down any match.
For AI training gigs, make sure your profile names your specialty, since the interview places you at a task level.

What Trainers Say on Reddit
Braintrust comes up far less than other platforms in r/AiTraining_Annotation, and almost never with a detailed story. We read every mention from May to October 2026.
- Most mentions are lists of platforms worth applying to, often with referral links.
- One commenter who tracks platforms lists it as open to applicants in Nigeria.
- Another notes that it uses video interviews, and one says it was the only option open in their country.
We found no detailed reports of pay, project volume or removals. That is not proof of a problem, but it means you are going in with less community knowledge than on busier platforms.
