Yes, DataAnnotation.tech is a real AI training platform. Its FAQ says it never asks you for money, it lists a starting rate for each project track, and it pays through PayPal. The hard part is getting in: one assessment with no retake, an ID check, and often silence instead of a rejection.
Everything below comes from DataAnnotation's own FAQ and job board, read on 2026-10-13, with the country rules checked again on 2026-10-16, plus a pass through r/DataAnnotationTech. DigiNo earns a referral if you join DataAnnotation through the field buttons on this page.
Is DataAnnotation.tech Legit?
Yes. The work is AI training: evaluating chatbot responses, comparing AI outputs, flagging factual errors, testing AI-generated images, writing challenging prompts and reviewing code.

DataAnnotation AI Trainer Jobs and Listed Pay
DataAnnotation sorts its AI trainer jobs into tracks, and the FAQ lists a starting rate for each one. Its job board listed 112 roles on 2026-10-13, with titles such as Software Engineer, Generalist, Attorney, Physician, Nurse, Chemist, and language specialists in Spanish, Hindi and Arabic.
Copies of its listings on job boards such as Indeed name the field and then AI Trainer, for example Proofreader – AI Trainer. Apply through DataAnnotation's own site, never through a third party that asks you for anything.
| Track | What it asks for | Listed at |
|---|---|---|
| General | Strong English, critical thinking, research and fact-checking | Starting at $25-$50+ per hour |
| Multilingual | Native fluency in another language on top of English | Starting at $20+ per hour |
| Coding | Python, JavaScript or other languages | Starting at $40-$150+ per hour |
| STEM | Advanced knowledge of math, physics, biology or chemistry | Starting at $40-$125+ per hour |
| Professional | Credentials in law, finance or medicine | Starting at $40-$125+ per hour |
These are the starting rates the FAQ lists, not what anyone will earn. Another answer in the same FAQ gives lower figures for general and coding work, so check the current FAQ before you rely on any number.

How Does DataAnnotation Work?
At sign-up you choose a qualification track and take its Starter Assessment. Most take about an hour. Specialized ones, such as coding, math, chemistry, law or medicine, take one to two hours.
You get one attempt, with no retakes. The FAQ says answers are judged on thoroughness and accuracy rather than speed, and that people who take their time on quality answers do better.
If you pass, DataAnnotation emails you within a few days. If you hear nothing, the FAQ says your application is still under review or was not accepted, and it cannot reply to every applicant.
Once you are in, there are no minimum hours or login requirements. Passing the starter assessment can also open specialist assessments for higher-paying projects. Our guide to passing the DataAnnotation assessment covers preparation for the one attempt.

Who Gets Accepted At DataAnnotation?
- Every track asks for fluent English and reliable internet. The FAQ does not list eligible countries (checked 2026-10-16).
- General work asks for a bachelor's degree or equivalent real-world experience. The generalist listing itself says no degree is required, so the two pages disagree.
- Multilingual work needs native fluency in a language besides English.
- Coding work needs programming experience, and the FAQ mentions LeetCode-style problems.
- STEM work asks for a master's or PhD, or a bachelor's plus ten years of experience.
- Professional work needs credentials in law, finance or medicine.
Older guides, including an earlier version of this page, said only six countries were eligible. The current FAQ does not say that.

DataAnnotation Reviews: What Trainers on Reddit Say
We read the busiest recent threads in r/DataAnnotationTech on 2026-10-13. The same problems came up again and again.
- Applications sitting in review for weeks or longer. Most commenters say that no reply after a couple of weeks usually means no.
- Results arriving anywhere from a few hours to two weeks or more after the assessment.
- Qualifications and projects dropping off dashboards, with both coding and generalist drops reported.
- Dry spells. Of the 800 most recent post titles (2026-09-27 to 2026-10-13), 30 were about no projects or an empty dashboard.
Missing pay was not one of the repeated themes. The complaints are about getting in and keeping a steady queue of work.
