Remote AI Training Jobs: Where to Start in 2026

Remote AI training jobs in 2026, covering what the work is, who gets hired, listed pay in 11 fields, 5 scam signs, and the steps to start this week.

Remote AI training jobs pay people to write, check and rate the work of AI models from home, usually as contractors on a platform that matches them to projects. The best place to start is the field you already know, because most open roles ask for professional experience. Never pay anyone to get one of these jobs.

This page is a beginner's map of what the work is, who gets hired, how to spot a scam, and the steps to take first. When you want the detail, our free AI Training Guide covers each step in full.

Watch: Where to Start With Remote AI Training Jobs

I sent about 40 remote job applications and heard nothing back, then AI training replied fast. In four minutes I walk you through what the work actually is, the three places I would start depending on what you do, and how to tell a real job from a fake. The written version is below.

What Remote AI Training Work Is

AI companies need people to show their models what good work looks like and to grade what the models produce. Platforms find those people, check them, and pay them by the hour or by the task.

The tasks depend on the project. Ethos, one of the platforms DigiNo covers, lists these project types in its expert terms:

  • Audio or video consultations.
  • Surveys.
  • Written reports.
  • Discrete tasks.
  • Review, analysis and annotation of AI output.

Its current ads ask professionals to create, check and improve AI-written documents, spreadsheets and slide decks from their own field. One trainer on Reddit describes a typical task as rating a piece of writing or a slide deck, taking one to three hours.

Step 1 of the guide, What Is an AI Trainer?, explains the role in more depth.

Who Gets Hired

Most open roles want a professional background. Ethos ads on 2026-10-13 asked for four or five years in a field such as teaching, HR, nonprofit work or privacy.

Mercor groups its public listings by field. On 2026-10-13 the most listings were in science, software engineering, languages, engineering, data analysis, medicine and finance, with a smaller set of generalist roles.

Trainers on Reddit say the same thing from the other side. Some were turned down for generalist roles, and they say the platforms mostly ask for specialist skills such as coding, a second language, law or medicine.

If you are not sure where your background fits, the AI Training Job Matcher asks two questions and points you to our top pick.

What Remote AI Training Jobs List as Pay

Mercor shows an hourly range on its listings. Here is what they showed by field on the day we checked.

FieldOpen listingsListed hourly rangeRange shown
Science (life, physical and social)63$60 to $110Middle half
Software engineering38$60 to $150Middle half
Languages and audio38$22 to $100Middle half
Other engineering31$45 to $118Middle half
Data analysis23$46 to $115Middle half
Medicine and nursing21$65 to $175Middle half
Finance19$62 to $172Middle half
Business operations18$60 to $120Middle half
Arts and design12$30 to $80Middle half
Law11$60 to $150Middle half
Mixed and generalist roles10$32 to $70Middle half
Listed on Mercor, 2026-10-13

These are the hourly ranges the listings state, not what anyone will earn. Actual pay depends on the project, and a listing is no guarantee of work. Middle half means the lowest and highest quarter of listings in that field are left out, so one unusual listing does not stretch the range. Open listings counts every listing in the field; the range uses the hourly ones only.

Ethos lists one hourly rate per ad. Our post on Ethos AI jobs has the current table by role family.

How to Spot an AI Training Job Scam

Real AI training platforms do not charge you to join. The US Federal Trade Commission says honest employers will never ask you to pay to get a job.

Watch for these signs, taken from the FTC and from trainers on Reddit:

  • Any fee to apply, to be placed, or for a certificate or job list.
  • A check sent to you that you must deposit and then send part of back.
  • Requests for bank or ID details over chat or email, outside the platform, framed as payroll setup.
  • Offers to open an account for you, or to let you work on someone else's account and split the pay. Real platforms check who you are, and Ethos trainers say payouts must go to a bank account in their own name.
  • Hours of unpaid task building before any paid work, with rules that change halfway through.

Trainers on Reddit suggest favoring platforms with clear company details, written payment terms and no upfront fees, and reading recent reviews from people who have been paid. The FTC suggests searching the company name with the words scam, review or complaint.

A real ID check is normal. Ethos, for example, uses Persona, an identity service, and may ask for a government ID and a live selfie. The difference is that it happens inside the platform, never through a stranger's message.

Step 2 of the guide, Are AI Training Jobs Legit?, covers this in full.

How to Start, Step by Step

  1. Pick your field. Use the AI Training Job Matcher to see which platform suits your background.
  2. Write a profile around your real work, with specific documents, projects and results. See Build a Profile That Gets Accepted.
  3. Prepare for the AI interview. Mercor offers a free practice interview that does not count, and lets you retake the official one up to three times. Ethos records its voice interview and uses AI to ask follow-up questions. Practice out loud with our AI interview practice.
  4. Apply to more than one platform. Trainers on Reddit advise against relying on one, because projects and country rules change.
  5. Set up payouts before your first task. Mercor pays every Wednesday for the previous week through Stripe or Wise, and Ethos pays through Revolut or Wise after a country check. Step 11 covers getting paid and taxes.
